Da Ma Cai brightens up welfare home’s Deepavali celebration

This Deepavali, Da Ma Cai via its Staff-in-the-Community (SITC) initiative brought festive joy and smiles to residents at Pertubuhan Kebajikan Thangam Illam (PKTI), Pandan Indah.

Kolam inspired by ancient Indian art greeted the group of staff volunteers as they arrived at PKTI. Children of PKTI welcomed the volunteers with an enchanting Indian classical dance, Bharatanatyam and the awe-inspiring Bollywood dance. PKTI’s hall were filled with chatters and laughter as staff volunteers mingled with the residents before they were treated to delicious lunch. In the spirit of giving and sharing, essential groceries and gift vouchers were presented to the Secretary of PKTI, Saseikala Subramaniam.

Jayakumar Shellamuthu and Saseikala Subramaniam, the Chairman and Secretary of PKTI were both very thankful to Da Ma Cai for coming to them during this festive season. Jayakumar added, “Deepavali celebration is not what it used to be. The burdens and financial hardship often leave us feeling helpless, as everyone is still striving to recover. The warmth of caring hearts and support we received is really a great help, and it gives us the energy and confident to continue to strive for our residents.”

“We love visitors coming to the Home, just like family members and spend the festive together. We enjoyed ourselves very much lighting the sparkles with the children during Deepavali,” said 69-year old Madam Letchumy. Another resident of PKTI, the 8-year old Darshan shared excitedly that he is happy to receive a new set of clothes, special meals, sweets and savouries this Deepavali.

“This SITC initiative is an avenue for Da Ma Cai to assist the communities in providing basic needs and well-being. We want this Deepavali to be celebrated in a true Malaysian spirit. We light up their celebration in hope to unlock many possibilities for the children to shine bright in their future. For our team, spending a day being a volunteer for a cause where we are generous in giving especially our time, is such a humbling experience.” said Da Ma Cai spokesperson.

Founded in 1996, PKTI is a welfare home that provides food, shelter, education and care for a group of 32 children, 8 senior citizens and 4 special needs children.
