Da Ma Cai reach out to charitable organisations in conjunction with Wesak

20 May 2022

Wesak Day is a time to reflect on the fundamental values of tolerance, compassion and service to humanity.  In conjunction with Wesak Day celebration, Da Ma Cai staff volunteers reached out to two charitable organisations: Bodhi Homecare and Pertubuhan Kebajikan Orang Tua Cacat dan Kurang Upaya Taman Connaught in a bid to help the organisations.

Grocery vouchers were presented to both the charitable organisations. “There are still many charitable organisations that are unable to cover their operating expenses, especially with less support from the public. We hope this will be helpful so that these organisations can support the needy community continuously,” said Da Ma Cai spokesperson.

Administrator of Bodhi Homecare, Qing Yuet said while they received donations, they also provide food offerings to the needy community in their area. “As the Buddha tells us, the greatest gift is the act of giving itself. With the practice of dana, our children will be able to really learn a way of life by giving and receiving,” said Qing Yuet.

Founder of Pertubuhan Kebajikan Orang Tua Cacat dan Kurang Upaya Taman Connaught, Lee Cen Foong told: “Currently we have 31 residents and we have lost a lot of public donations since the start of the pandemic. We are being very thrifty these days and we did not hire any workers to help out. Therefore, any help will be greatly appreciated even if it is just volunteering.”

Bodhi Homecare is a registered care home established in 1989 to house and take care of handicapped and abandoned old folks and children. The Home also provide other charitable services to the needy residence in the area of low cost housing blocks where the center is located.

Established in January 2019, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Orang Tua Cacat dan Kurang Upaya Taman Connaught adopts and take care of the seniors who are abandoned by their family members, disabled or with disease such as Alzheimer.
